Today marks as one of the dark days of sports since this day, Kobe Bryant, the Black Mamba, died on a helicopter crash near Calabasas, California. Considered as one of NBA's legends together with the likes of Michael Jordan, he was instrumental in bringing his team, Los Angeles Lakers to several championships.
When he joined the league in the year 1996, he was together with the more known Larry Drew and Michael Cooper at that time. " He debuted in the Summer Pro League in Long Beach California scoring 25 points in a standing room only crowd. He scored 36 points in the finale and finished with averages of 24.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in four games.
The world of sports and even outside of it woke up today in tears as they were told of the horrific news about his death. And what added to the pain was that he died in the crash together with his 13- year- old daughter Gianna who also is an aspiring basketball star. We all include in our prayers the eternal repose of his soul and we also pray for the peace of mind and heart of the family.

Year 2018 indeed was filled with many exciting events in the world of sports. To name some of these big events, events like Winter Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Football's World Cup, Formula 1 Races and many more have resulted in new sporting heroes coming out and some old faces fading away from the limelight.
Picking up a few of these sports, first in the tennis world, new interesting names that are coming out are the likes of Alexander Zverev, the 6'6" 21 yrs old German who made big waves most notably in the Roland Garros tournament
when he reached the quarter finals. Another new big name that came out last year was 21 year old Croatian Borna Coric, who made himself spectacular with victories over big names like Andy Murray and Dominic Thiem.
Meanwhile in the Formula 1 races, the following emerged as the dominant drivers:
1. Lewis Hamilton
2. Valterri Bottas
3. Sebastian Vettel
4. Kimi Raikkonen
5. Fernando Alonzo
6. Sergio Perez

In the world of boxing, prominent names that made waves last year are the following: Keith Thurman, Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua, Chris Eubank, and Luis Nery. All throughout the year 2018, several interesting bouts were held and in all of them, joy was evident on the faces of those triumphant ones while pain of defeat was rather displayed on the not so lucky ones.
Among the latest news in tennis is on Sam Stosur who is set to rejoin the whole Australian Fed Cup team next year so as to reclaim the nation's first final attempt in 1994. Stosur, 33, did not join this year's Fed Cup effort for she focused her eyes on all her schedules this year but luck was not on her side as she was sidelined by a hand injury and failed to participate in the Wimbledon and the US Open Championships.
Meanwhile, another known player who is making news nowadays is Bernard Tomic. Presently affected by his performance this year which was not really spectacular, he remains in doubt to be a wild card entry for the incoming world know event- the Australian Open.
Winning a merely 10 games this year, he had a difficulty performing well all throughout this year.
Finally, one Australian player who is making marks this year is the 17th ranked Ash Barty. The Queenslander is presently the highest-ranked unseeded player from the distaff side. All throughout this year, Barty had noteworthy performances especially in the recently concluded WTA Wuhan Tournament in China wherein she beat four top- 15 players.
Hence, these are but just a few of the latest developments that the world of tennis is offering to us nowadays.
The world of sports is composed of so many facets. And one of those is its similarity to a coin- it is composed of two parts- positive and negative. Any sport's goal is constantly achieving the winning side. Hence giving one's 100% performance in any sport is a must. No second level or lopsided performance but rather, everything should be aiming for the best.
On the other hand, losing in any competition is the other side of the coin, desolation, downhearted, heartbroken, and others are but the same of the negative consequences of any loss. Sometimes, a player could ask himself, " What went wrong with my performance? How did it happen when in fact, I have given my best shot?"
Other questions could come up in one's mind yet at the very end, this unfortunate result could be a blessing in disguise most notably when one says to himself, "I need to see the positive effects of this loss." That instead of blaming oneself or the worse, blaming others,
one will resort to retrospection and assess what needs to be improved or revised in terms of one's approach to the game.
"Better luck luck next time" is always a seemed compliment afterwards yet there would be a room for improvement in one's performance. Thus one of the best ways to approach any game is to look at it as a means of emerging as a winner- both in winning or losing the game. It's all in the mind after all.
January 18- 31, 2016- mark those dates as they usher the start of the grand slam of tennis among others are the Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open- the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the whole world and the events that every tennis player should wish to participate into.
Some interesting activities are being lined up as early as last year to make this yearly event another amazing one. On the sidelines, famous Melbourne restaurants are set to put up shop on the annual Australian Open Festival to be held at Birrarung Marr from from 18 to 31 of January.
Exciting names to take note for this year's event are those of Lleyton Hewitt who will be playing for his last Australian Open appearance, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray. This year's initial offering of Grand Slam is proudly sponsored by KIA, ANZ, Jacob's Creek and IBM.
Nearing to the end of this year, several spectacular events have happened in the world of sports both positive and negative. Young guns have emerged and old great ones have ended their reign of their thrones held for such a long time.
Sharing with you then some of those memorable milestones on this sporting world. One of the scandals that rocked the world of sports is in the game of soccer when FIFA suspended seven of its officials on the charge of bribery by taking some illegal money to favour certain people that went back as far as 1990s.
On the lighter side, victors emerged and sweeter at this time especially for the Kansas City Royals for winning the World Series and what made it so sweet for all of them and their fans is the fact that this is their first time in 30 years. In the world of boxing, the biggest name and winner is Floyd Mayweather who recently won his mega fight with the equally popular Manny Pacquiao in a unanimous decision bout.
In the world of tennis, Novak Djokovic continued his dominance of this sports at this stage as he gathered wins in various tournaments this year. On the distaff side, it is Serena Williams who emerged as the most triumphant among the players as she gathered wins in the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon that allows her to gather as her achievement 21 majors and still counting.
Philippines will continue to be one of those countries which will be known due to its list of hard hitting and excellent boxers. To name some famous ones, you can hear the names of the most popular during this era, the world known slugger Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, Brian Villoria etc.. However, looking forward to the present young batch of Philippine boxers, there are some names worthy to mention. Among this batch, I would like to share with you three names which came out as very promising and hopeful of also becoming great in the near future.
These three boxers are still on their prime and if given the right direction as well as the opportunity to hit big time, I believe that they have a big chance to make it. These three are the Pagara brothers, known for their hard hitting and aggressive stances and the well rounded young boxer Mark Magsayo.
1. Jason Pagara- he is the older brother between the Pagara brothers. With his father, Reynaldo, as his source of encouragement and with his strong following of the likes of Manny Pacquaio and older ALA Stable boxers AJ Banal and Boom Boom Bautista, he started boxing at an early age, 8 yrs. old. He prided himself with his record of 37 wins with 23 knock outs and 2 defeats at the hands of Filipino boxer Rey Anton Olarte in 2007 and Mexican boxer Rosbel Montoya. His defeat with Montoya was vindicated when he demolished him in their return fight winning the bout in the 6th round. His latest triumph was just last month on their first US debut (ALA Boxing stable). In front of a huge US crowd and Pinoy fans, he showed his brilliance in the ring by sending his opponent, Nicaraguan Santos Buenavides, to the canvass several times.
2. Albert Pagara- nicknamed as the Prince, Albert is the second of the popular Pagara boxers in ALA Boxing Stables. His present record of 25 wins (18 by knockouts) with 0 defeat is indeed a very promising one. He is well known for his very powerful right hand though his left hand is also touted as equally powerful. His latest stint was in Dubai World Trade Center when he masterfully defeated Mexican opponent, Jesus Rios on the very first round.
3. Mark Magsayo- although considered by many as still a novice on the professional level of boxing but he already made some news with his outstanding stoppages with the likes of John Rey Melligen, Ernesto Tata Fontanilla, and the visiting Korean boxer Moon Sun Jung. He won all his fights in such a masterful fashion that many are predicting a bright future ahead of him.
Philippines would never run out of promising and talented fighters and it is such a pleasure to know a few of them through those mentioned beforehand. Still, as they continue to search for that big time glory, there is still a long way to go for these three talented ALA Stable boxers.
Everyday the sporting world wakes up with various development and surprises. Winners become losers and losers enjoy the feeling high of emerging as winners. Here then are a few of what is going on around us on the world of sports:
1. Some Interesting Numbers in NRL: On the defensive side, here are some surprises that emerged in the ongoing NRL league: Broncos Hooker's Andrew McCullough topped the tackle board with 1138 while the other lucky performers on this area are Simon Mannering with 1013, Leeson Ah Mau (566 tackles), Paul Vaughan (520 tackles).
2. On the distaff side and on the world of basketball, Leilani Mitchell and Kelly Bowen are reported to jointly captain the new MAC Adelaide Lightning in the basketball competition, WNBL. Bowen played for Melbourne during last tournament. Considered as a versatile small or power forward, she came up as a runner up to Dandenong's Stephanie Cumming for the tournament's MVP race. As remarked by rookie coach Tracy York, " I think both players bring great leadership". With this development, much will be at stake for the next tournament. - Source - http://www.news.com.au/sport/breaking-news

3. On the Philippine basketball scene, the recent move of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to release 17 players to the national pool is welcomed as a manifestation of their total and unequivocal support to the national team as it prepares itself to the Olympic World Qualifier which will be held in July next year. These are some of the big names coming from their respective clubs and for allowing these players to join the national pool, they are sacrificing their own team interests. - Source- www.philstar.com
4. Meanwhile on the world of boxing, the famous ALA boxing stable of Cebu is excited to announce the incoming slugfest entitled Pinoy Pride 33 in Carson City, California. Known for its stable of hard fighting boxers, ALA lead by the father and son tandem Tony and Michael Aldeguer, this will be the club's initial offering in USA. The lucky fighters who will fight in front of a US crowd are the following: Donnie Nietes (WBO Lightflyweight champion), Superbantamweight Albert Pagara, superlightweight Jason Pagara, and featherweight Mark Magsayo. - source: www.philstar.com
Hence, these are but few of the recent developments in the world of sports and as these sportsmen continue to strive for perfection, may we also not stop to provide support to them by following whatever update the world of sports give to us.
We had the great experience yesterday to watch the thrashing victory of the home court team, the Western Bulldogs against the visiting team, Port Adelaide. At the start of the game though, it was the Port which was leading the game. However, after just a few minutes that lapsed, the Bulldogs started to show their dominance over the Port.
The leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Jake Stringer with 4 goals, Redpath also contributed a significant number of goals same as Crameri and Dickson while on the side of the Port, it was Schulz with 2 goals, and Wingard with the same output.
Such an amazing performance of the Dogs that now they are sort of pronouncing it to the rest of the league that they're back. On the previous competitions such as last year, they did not perform that well but this year, they are making it good that they now occupy one of the top spots in the league.
Congratulations to the whole Bulldogs team and better luck next time for the Port.
Nowadays various sporting news happen in every corner of the globe thus it is very essential on our part to be updated with everything that is going on around us. To keep the readers' interests on this subject matter, here then are some of the recent developments in the world of sports:
1. Controversial remarks made my Brazilian coach- this explicitly happened during the recent version of Copa America wherein Brazilian coach, Dunga, was highly criticised especially by the netizen for making a disgusting remark in which he tried to compare himself as of having an African descent or roots while experiencing difficulty and challenging comments as a consequence of the team's lackluster performance in the said prestigious competition. And although the famous coach made a public apology on his outburst yet the damage has been done on his actions.

2. Another gold medal dream for an NBA Champion- Andrew Bogut, a famed member of the recently declared NBA 2015 Champions, Golden State Warriors, made this remarkable statement in one of his news conference. He further mentioned that if the previous Aussie basketball team which performed splendidly in the Olympics will remain fit and prepared, then they have a big chance to grab the much desired gold medal on the coming Rio Olympics.
3. Italian Star Continued to Shine- in the world of motorsports, it is the time of the famous Italian rider, Valentino Rossi, to shine by winning the Dutch MotoGP. The event was held in Assen and he was going toe to toe with Marc Marquez and emerged triumphant than the other rider. " This win is very important because I was competitive all weekend." this was his pronouncement at the end of the race. His winning time margin was 1.242 seconds over his closest rival.
Hence these are but just a few of the latest developments in the world of sports. As every new day unfolds, many new winning moments also are being shared and let us continue to savour every moment by refreshing our minds with all these developments.
Being able to watch such a remarkable game between the visiting West Coast Eagles against the local based Saint Kilda Saints, we were left contented and appreciative to the performance of all players from both squads. Witnessing the game from the very start up to its end, we were delighted to see a fighting and gallant Saint Kilda squad to the present number 2 team in the league.
Indeed the will to fight of all the Saints' members were so obvious but somehow, the momentum did sided on the Eagles'. Proving their worth as the present number 2 team in the league, they answered every rally made by the Saints.
Their quickness made a very strong impact on this game. But nobody could also disregard the gallant effort of the Saints that it even resulted to the injury of their players named Jimmy Webster to concussion and a hamstring injury to defender Sam Fisher.
In the end, the two teams deserve the respect of the crowd who all braved the cold Melbourne weather to watch the gruelling match and it was obvious then when the final siren sounded that everyone was jubilant to have witnessed such a thrilling football game.
Event: Australian Football League (AFL)
Elimination Round

In the world of sports, winning is the most essential thing to achieve. Hence, sports people train so hard day in and day out so as to achieve the goal of success. Perhaps it is always the will that will guide a person towards joy and contentment in whichever field of sports he would deal on.
On the other hand, your will to be the best should always be the guide to reach the top and it should be devoid of any wrongdoings. And it needs to be consistently bear in mind that winning is the primary goal. Another consideration on any field of sports is the attitude of being fair and square with others even with one's direct competitors. In times of losing, accept with all humility and never put the blame of losing on the opponent.
Your will to excel is very essential and plays a critical role on the game. It should be couple with a regular routine to improve your performance and abilities. Winning is therefore achieved when you become ready to face all the necessary elements of the game.
Hence, put consistency in your game and always desire to improve your performance. And by all these elements, winning then could be at hand to you.
The world of sports is composed of so many facets. And one of these is its similarity to a coin- it is composed of two parts - positive and negative. Any sport's aim is always winning the game. That instead of blaming oneself or the worse, blaming others, one will resort to retrospection and assess what needs to be improve or revised in terms of one's approach to the game.
"Better luck next time" is always a seemed compliment afterwards yet there would always be a room for improvement in one's performance.

One of the most awaited tennis competitions every year is the Australian Open. And for this year, it has commenced yesterday (19 January 2015) and will run till February 1, 2015. Some notes of it:

Some of the highlights during the opening date:
Good news for the Australian men as four of them emerged as winners on the opening day event. These include Tomic, Kokkinakis, Groth and Kyrgios. Meanwhile, other big names who came triumphant on their initial matches are Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Thomas Berdych, and Grigor Dimitrov. However on the distaff side, one known player who was ousted on the opening day was Ana Ivanovic, the world's number five, who lost her game to Lucie Hradecka, 6-1, 3-6, 2-6.
Hence if you enjoy the game of tennis, watch all the games live on the playing court or on TV and together with its million fans, scream to the top of your voice to cheer your favourite tennis great players.
Many nations nowadays are competing for the right to host international sporting events however some people think this is not a good idea. Hosting big sports events can be an issue for countries especially for those which are competing to win such right. It can be a problem and it is not a good idea since the competition may result to a sour relationship among them.
Big sporting events such as World Cup, Olympics, and others attract many affluent people and tourists to witness them. Consequently this would bring huge profit and long term economical increase in terms of tourism. However due to the benefits that could be possibly acquired, the right to host thus become a stiff competition among them. Although it would be a big advantage to win the right due to the prospect of having more infrastructures, labour force and promotions. For example, the Olympic that was held in China was announced with greater margin and apparently it acquired more prominence especially to its culture.
Furthermore, the opportunity to host such a massive event provides an opportunity to invite more people like businessmen and the like. Eventually it will result to further boost to economy. On the other hand, the negative impact of creating a compelling decision to which country will come out as the eventual host will most likely result to a deteriorating relationship among the participating countries. Aside from that, bribery and corruption might also happen among the competing nations.
Eventually, the hosting of such events will either result to a positive outcome or a negative one. It is therefore upon the hands of the corresponding leaders and officers of these nations to see to it that everything is done according to the best of interest of all.
In my entry today, I will share with you some updates on the world of sports. Nowadays, sports world has so many exciting events going on here and there. Let us try to know what are some of the latest inspiring events in sports.
In the world of Australian football, the famous AFL (Australian Football League), the Melbourne Demons will face Greater Western Sydney in a game which will be held at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) on Sunday. Earlier this year, they have emerged triumphant over teams such as Essendon, Richmond, Carlton, and Adelaide. Meanwhile Geelong Cats made a masterful triumph over Carlton at Docklands. This indeed became a much needed preparation for them for their next game against Hawthorn which for many is considered to be a blockbuster encounter.
imagecredit: Ben Tabanquerao
And as of this date, the top teams at the ladderboard for AFl are the following: Geelong with 16-0 standings, Hawthorn 15-0, Sydney 15-0, Freemantle 13-0, Fort Adelaide 12-0. These are the best performing teams so far in the AFL standings.
Meanwhile in golf, Bradley Dredge of Wales, presently the first round co-leader in the Danish Open Golf, is sitting eight under par at the halfway mark. This tournament is the national open golf tournament of Denmark. And Fijian former world number 1 ranked Vijay Singh is promising to make a comeback after a few so-so performance in the tournaments that he had participated in. When he was at the prime of his sports, he coveted major awards in winning three majors thus making him world number ranked player for 32 consecutive weeks and these were on the years 2004 and 2005.
The recent conclusion of the 2014 Wimbledon Championships showed another triumph by the much improved player Petra Kvitova . And the 24 year old Czech deserved her latest addition to her trophies that she outrightly dominated the young Canadian player Eugenie Bouchard.
When the match was over, the over all score would tell us how dominating the performance of Kvitova 6-3, 6-0. Her attacks were so furious that left Bouchard unable to return most of the time. Neverthless, her defence as well as astounding. After the match and in one of her interviews, she exclaimed that that game was one of the best matches so far that she had played.
On the men's side, it was the recent considered best player in the world, Novak Djokovic, who emerged as the most consistent player when he outsmarted Roger Federer in five sets. Indeed the victory was so sweet for Djokovic that the triumph was his seventh major title and it came after he lost three previous finals.
Thus congratulations to the two world's best tennis players at this stage of the game.
“This is the biggest achievement I've ever had in my career. Being here, Miguel Cotto, being here at Madison Square Garden, I feel very good. I told you that we had the most beautiful and the most outrageous camp in my career. I have to thank Freddie (Roach) and my group."- Miguel Cotto
Indeed, it was such an overwhelming performance by the three time champion challenger Miguel Cotto after scoring what was said as an overwhelming conquer over the champion, the 39- year old Sergio Martinez. Martinez has been knock down twice in his previous fights and successfully stood up then won the fight.
However on his recent fight against the Puerto Rican superstar fighter, he was outclassed even at the start of the fight in which saw him floored thrice. Thus last Saturday, June 7th, the world saw him clearly outmatched by Miguel Cotto. It was so obvious that the fight was so one sided in favour of the Puerto Rican fighter that Martinez's trainer Pablo Sarmiento gave in the fight by throwing the towel before the start of the tenth round.
It was moreover a wise move by the trainer to prevent his fighter from acquiring further punishment. He had his right eye cut and it was severely swelling. The spirit of Martinez to fight was very much on yet the physical power was no longer present. Hence the world witnessed such a display of a boxing showcase by the much heralded and the only four division Puerto Rican champion, Miguel Cotto.
Watch out for the coming comeback fight of Rey "Boomboom" Bautista. He will be making his comeback fight against Sergio Villanueva of Mexica. We all remember that Boomboom had his rest from the ring when he decided to call it quits after failing in his recent fights.
However, the blood of boxing, the quest of glory and the love of the sports convinced him that after all, he still has a long way to go in the sports. Boom boom is still a young blood in this sports and he can improve a lot if he will also free himself from all those things that created stumbling blocks towards his gate of success.
As a young but talented boxer, he has shown in the past that he can slug it out with any boxer out there. He is, on the other hand, maybe lacking in stamina and defence but these things can be learned and it only needs his focus and determination to make it to the top.
Anyway other pinoy pugs who will be seeing action on this fight promotion dubbed as Pinoy Pride XXV are Milan Melindo, Donnie Nietes and more. Let us all support our boxers and show to the world that they are of world calibers as well.
