What is Important in Sports: Winning or Something Else?

Disclosure:" This post may contain affiliate links. I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you."

The world of sports is composed of various facets. And one among those is its similarity to a coin- it is composed of two opposing parts- positive and the negative. And on sports, any aim on events is always winning- thus giving 100% performance is always a must.  No second level or lopsided performance but rather, everything should be aiming for the best.

However, losing in any competition is the other side of the coin. Pain, desolation, heartbroken and downhearted are but some of the negative consequences of any loss. Sometimes, a player could ask himself, " What went wrong with my performance?

How did it happen when in fact, I have given my best shot?" Other questions could come up in one's mind yet at the very end, this unfortunate result could be a blessing in disguise and it will happen when one says the positive effect of losing.

That instead of blaming oneself or the worse, blaming others, one will resort to retrospection and assess what needs to be improved in terms of one's approach to the game. "Better luck next time." is always a positive approach to the experience. Thus one of the best ways to approach any game is to look at it as a  means of emerging as a winner- both in winning or losing the game. It's all in the mind after all.

The Heart of a Winner

The world of sports is composed of so many facets. And one of those is its similarity to a coin- it is composed of two parts- positive and negative. Any sport's goal is constantly achieving the winning side. Hence giving one's 100% performance in any sport is a must. No second level or lopsided performance but rather, everything should be aiming for the best.

On the other hand, losing in any competition is the other side of the coin, desolation, downhearted, heartbroken, and others are but the same of the negative consequences of any loss. Sometimes, a player could ask himself, " What went wrong with my performance? How did it happen when in fact, I have given my best shot?"

Other questions could come up in one's mind yet at the very end, this unfortunate result could be a blessing in disguise most notably when one says to himself, "I need to see the positive effects of this loss." That instead of blaming oneself or the worse, blaming others,
one will resort to retrospection and assess what needs to be improved or revised in terms of one's approach to the game.

"Better luck luck next time" is always a seemed compliment afterwards yet there would be a room for improvement in one's performance. Thus one of the best ways to approach any game is to look at it as a means of emerging as a winner- both in winning or losing the game. It's all in the mind after all.

The Roaring Bulldogs

We had the great experience yesterday to watch the thrashing victory of the home court team, the Western Bulldogs against the visiting team, Port Adelaide. At the start of the game though, it was the Port which was leading the game. However, after just a few minutes that lapsed, the Bulldogs started to show their dominance over the Port.

The leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Jake Stringer with 4 goals, Redpath also contributed a significant number of goals same as Crameri and Dickson while on the side of the Port, it was Schulz with 2 goals, and Wingard with the same output.

Such an amazing performance of the Dogs that now they are sort of pronouncing it to the rest of the league that they're back. On the previous competitions such as last year, they did not perform that well but this year, they are making it good that they now occupy one of the top spots in the league.

Congratulations to the whole Bulldogs team and better luck next time for the Port.

Hosting International Sporting Events

Many nations nowadays are competing for the right to host international sporting events however some people think this is not a good idea. Hosting big sports events can be an issue for countries especially for those which are competing to win such right. It can be a problem and it is not a good idea since the competition may result to a sour relationship among them.

Big sporting events such as World Cup, Olympics, and others attract many affluent people and tourists to witness them. Consequently this would bring huge profit and long term economical increase in terms of tourism. However due to the benefits that could be possibly acquired, the right to host thus become a stiff competition among them. Although it would be a big advantage to win the right due to the prospect of having more infrastructures, labour force and promotions. For example, the Olympic that was held in China was announced with greater margin and apparently it acquired more prominence especially to its culture.

Furthermore, the opportunity to host such a massive event provides an opportunity to invite more people like  businessmen and the like. Eventually it will result to further boost to economy. On the other hand, the negative impact of creating a compelling decision to which country will come out as the eventual host will most likely result to a deteriorating relationship among the participating countries. Aside from that, bribery and corruption might also happen among the competing nations.

Eventually, the hosting of such events will either result to a positive outcome or a negative one. It is therefore upon the hands of the corresponding leaders and officers of these nations to see to it that everything is done according to the best of interest of all.

Wimbledon 2014

The recent conclusion of the 2014 Wimbledon Championships showed another triumph by the much improved player Petra Kvitova . And the 24 year old Czech deserved her latest addition to her trophies that she outrightly dominated the young Canadian player Eugenie Bouchard.

When the match was over, the over all score would tell us how dominating the performance of Kvitova 6-3, 6-0. Her attacks were so furious that left Bouchard unable to return most of the time. Neverthless, her defence as well as astounding. After the match and in one of her interviews, she exclaimed that that game was one of the best matches so far that she had played.

On the men's side, it was the recent considered best player in the world, Novak Djokovic, who emerged as the most consistent player when he outsmarted Roger Federer in five sets. Indeed the victory was so sweet for Djokovic that the triumph was his seventh major title and it came after he lost three previous finals.

Thus congratulations to the two world's best tennis players at this stage of the game.

Cotto Charges Again

“This is the biggest achievement I've ever had in my career. Being here, Miguel Cotto, being here at Madison Square Garden, I feel very good. I told you that we had the most beautiful and the most outrageous camp in my career. I have to thank Freddie (Roach) and my group."- Miguel Cotto

Indeed, it was such an overwhelming performance by the three time champion challenger Miguel Cotto after scoring what was said as an overwhelming conquer over the champion, the 39- year old Sergio Martinez. Martinez has been knock down twice in his previous fights and successfully stood up then won the fight.

However on his recent fight against the Puerto Rican superstar fighter, he was outclassed even at the start of the fight in which saw him floored thrice. Thus last Saturday, June 7th, the world saw him clearly outmatched by Miguel Cotto. It was so obvious that the fight was so one sided in favour of the Puerto Rican fighter that Martinez's trainer Pablo Sarmiento gave in the fight by throwing the towel before the start of the tenth round.

It was moreover a wise move by the trainer to prevent his fighter from acquiring further punishment. He had his right eye cut and it was severely swelling. The spirit of Martinez to fight was very much on yet the physical power was no longer present. Hence the world witnessed such a display of a boxing showcase by the much heralded and the only four division Puerto Rican champion, Miguel Cotto.

What's New In Boxing?

Among the sports that we have nowadays, boxing is one of my top favorites. Everyday I try to read as much as I can anything on boxing from its latest headlines,  fight results, comebacks, upsets etc. I read them thoroughly just to enrich myself with what is new and fresh in the world of boxing. Consequently, I would like to share with you the latest achievement of Manny Pacquiao in the sports.

Though the fight was held a few weeks back yet I believe it is still worth mentioning here that the recent win by Pacquiao over Brandon "Bambam" Rios significantly showed that he has successfuly made a comeback after that devastating knock out loss to Juan Manuel Marquez a few  months back.

With that fight on Rios, from start to finish, Pacquiao clearly dominated over his younger opponent. Rios, while possessing talented boxing skills, obviously was outmatched and outwitted by the speed and strength of Pacquiao. Though at the sound of the bell signalling the end of the fight, both fighters were still standing however there was no doubt that Pacquiao emerged as the winner.

Thus, we can expect for another mega fight of Manny Pacquiao with any top rated boxer next year. For sure, that fight will be as exciting as all of his previous fights.

WHAT A GAME!

The recent success of GILAS PILIPINAS in the ongoing FIBA ASIA Championship as it clobbered South Korea with a 86-79 game was a sweet one not only for the team but for the whole nation.

It is fresh in the minds of the country how South Korea broke the hearts of the Filipino people when its team defeated the Centennial team in 1998. At that time, the Philippine team was under the leadership of Coach Tim Cone.

Then in 2002, the Philippne team under coach Jong Uichico dropped a heartbreaking semifinal loss to another Korean team. On that game, at the crucial stage of the game, Olsen Racela missed two crucial free throws. Consequently, it allowed Lee Sang-Min, a team's triggerman, made a long trey.

Another heartbreaking loss by the Philippine Team against the Korean Team happened in 2011 Fiba Asian Championship, the team under coach Rajko Toroman, lost to another Korean team while it battled for third place.

Thus the recent victory of the Philippine Team against the South Korean team made it more significant as it ended its previous defeats to the Korean Team.

Today the Filipino cagers will battle for the championship title against another powerhouse team Iran. Yet whoever emerge as triumphant on this day's final game will eventually be remembered as heroes by all those basketball afficionados everywhere.

SUCCESS IS GREAT

Just recently the famous England club Liverpool came to Melbourne and played against the famous Melbourne Victory. Liverpool won the game with a score of 2 against 0. After 31 minutes, Steven Gerrard stormed the defence of Melbourne Victory and made a goal.

After 90 minutes of the game, another goal was scored by Liverpool this time courtesy of Luis Suarez thus completing a domination on the local team. With this development,  the spectators had mixed reactions like those who were die hard fans of Melbourne Victory, they were feeling awed through the skills showed by both team's players. While those were voting for Liverpool, they were thrilled by the win and it again showed how skillful these players in the game.

Indeed it is such a moment when our favorite players triumph in their game most especially when we know that they are really doing their best and play in a very fair way. Their examples will also serve as motivation in reaching our dreams in life. May our dreams come true.
